Mayan Cuisine In Stamford

As imported from the heart of Guatemala, the birthplace of the Maya civilization, the Maya Restaurant and Bakery came in 2009 to Stamford to serve all of Fairfield County. Its co-owner, Maria Sandoval, a native of one of the most colorful countries in the world, had dreamed of having a business, and that dream became a reality when she came to live in the United States and teamed up with Vinicio Lopez.

Bringing with them their roots, they decided to open a restaurant and bakery where their culture would spread its wings as the quetzal and would be known by the great human diversity that is now part of their world. There, like in the comfort of their home, customers are served with the unique smile of Mayan natives and, as well, as Guatemala has a wealth of plants, the Maya offers its customers the more fresh and healthy food for the pleasure of their palate.

Maya Restaurant offers the best of the Mayan world, combining the meat, chicken and chorizo in a marinade with the most delicate of spices and flavors typical of the cuisine of the region. These are used to prepare a barbecue called San Juan Sacatepeques, the preferred dish of its customers. Other dishes include seafood, soups and tender salads made with delicious ripe avocado; without missing the fusion with its great variety of Mexican tacos.

The Maya Restaurant and Bakery is located at 166 Stillwater Ave., in Stamford.
