In 1996, Ken Hays gathered friends together in Purchase, N.Y., to throw a memorial party for Jerry Garcia and called it “Deadhead Heaven, a Gathering of the Tribe.” The following year, the celebration was relocated to Croton Point Park, N.Y., and renamed “Gathering of the Vibes.”
The Gathering of the Vibes Music and Art Festival is now an annual, four-day event that has been held in six different venues over its 15 years. This year will be the seventh time that Vibes takes place at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, from July 21- 24. Individuals may purchase a single-day ticket without having to give up personal responsibilities for the entire weekend.
Friday and Saturday single-day passes may be purchased on the website for $75. The Sunday pass is $40. Weekend camping passes are $205. A weekend pass includes access to Vibes from 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, until 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, and camping is included. VIP weekend camping passes are available for $420. Saturday and Sunday single-day VIP tickets are $150.
Sunday VIP single-day tickets are $125. VIP allows access to special parking, the chill tent, meals, beverages and 2011 commemorative gifts. Children 12 and under are free if accompanied by an adult. Professional security will be onsite to assist people and maintain a peaceful environment.
There are opportunities to submit applications for craft vending, food vending and even volunteering for Vibes 2011.

Not only is there live music from big names as well as newer talented bands, but The Gathering of the Vibes Music and Arts Festival also hosts a variety of ways for individuals to be active participants in the community. For example, the festival hosts a nonperishable food, personal hygiene product and clothing drive. A portion of the donations will go to the Bridgeport Office of Veterans Affairs and the Bridgeport Office on Aging. There will also be a contest to design a poster for the Vibes food drive.
Vibes can be a great way to relax and have fun with people you care about. It might be your only opportunity to see your favorite musicians all in one location.
